The usual rule is one litter box per cat, plus one. Two boxes side by side in a corner are not a pretty sight. In a sideboard with two compartments both disappear.
Each compartment has its own cat door, so the cats do not have to meet. A wall separates the compartments, and on top there is room for plants or a lamp.

Our rule: the litter box is about 1.5 times the length of the cat, up to 75 cm, about the largest box sold. The compartment adds 10 cm to each dimension. Sizes for the larger cat of each breed. We check the numbers against your own cat.
